Abe skips Yasukuni, but sends offering

Abe's visit to Yasukuni in December drew unusual criticism from the United States, which expressed "disappointment" with the move. (The Japan Times)Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dedicated a ceremonial tree offering April 21 to contentious Yasukuni Shrine as it kicked off its annual spring ceremony the same day -- a move likely to further anger old war foes China and South Korea.

The offering of the masakaki, a decorative tree used in Shinto ritualsat the war-linked shrine, came just days before U.S. President Barack Obama's visit here.

安倍晋三首相は４月21日、議論を引き起こす靖国神社に儀式用の木を奉納した。

同日、靖国神社は毎年行なわれる春の儀式（春季例大祭）を開始した。

この奉納で昔の戦争の敵である中国と韓国をさらに怒らせそうだ。

戦争に関連する神社での神道の儀式で使われる飾り用の木である真榊の奉納は、

アメリカのバラク・オバマ大統領が来日するほんの数日前に行なわれた。

12月の安倍首相の靖国参拝はアメリカから異例の非難を引き起こし、

アメリカはその動き（靖国参拝）について「落胆」を表した。
